Position Scope

We are seeking a Mechanic/Welder to support our San Miguel Mine team by repairing of draglines and other mining equipment, as well as welding, and efficiently following all safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to perform and report mechanical inspections of equipment and record data in form, books. 
  • Reading and comprehension of parts books and manuals. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of reading and interpreting technical manuals, instructions, and equipment blueprints and schematics. 
  • Accurate assessment of mechanical breakdowns and repairs. 
  • Willingness to use aerial lifting equipment to make elevated repairs. 
  • Knowledge and troubleshooting abilities of air compressors and lube systems. 
  • Knowledge of mechanical tooling and test instruments. 
  • Understanding of bearing, gearing, and drive components. 
  • Correctly welds all types of metals together using proper techniques and weld methods. 
  • Prepares materials for welding, cuts, grinds, and cleans metal. 
  • Utilizes fabrication skills to complete all phases of fabrication.
  • Provides feedback and input into the fabrication process regarding order of assembly, design, materials, fixtures, and jigs. 
  • Conceptualizes and makes fixtures. 
  • Ensures correct documentation and processes are followed for standardized work processes. 
  • Annotates and marks up customer blueprints for future reference. 
  • Produces work that is consistently accurate. 
  • Perform assigned duties with limited supervision. 
  • Must perform all job functions in accordance with federal state and local laws and regulations. 
  • Must adhere to all established company safety and environmental policies and procedures. 
  • Appropriate knowledge of occupational hazards and apply safety precautions to perform assigned work. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and abilities:

  • Understanding of the English language; Bilingual language skills preferred.
  • Five years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance preferred. 
  • Must be able to operate company vehicles while maintaining a valid driving record (MVR) in good standing. 
  • Ability to perform welding and cutting. 
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts. 

Education and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Mechanical technical training in a vocational school or equivalent experience.

 

Minimum Experience:

  • Prior dragline and heavy equipment maintenance/welding experience preferred.

Working Environment:

  • The employee in this role will be working indoors and outdoors.
  • The employee in this role will be working in a mining environment. 
  • The employee will regularly be exposed to noise levels requiring hearing protaction. 

 

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift between 35lbs to 75lbs.
  • Ability to frequently stand, sit, twist, and use their hands, fingers, and wrists to grip. 
  • Ability to bend to operate controls. 
  • Occasionally be required to walk, stoop, pull objects, kneel, climb stairs. 
  • Gross and fine motor skills required. 

Summary

All successful candidates must:

  1. Be proficient in English, both verbally and written
  2. Have a valid Driver’s License
  3. Have experience as requested as mentioned above
  4. Undergo and successfully pass the following testing:
    • Breath Alcohol Test
    • Urine Drug Test
    • Fitness-to-Work Assessment
    • Audiometric Testing
    • Vision Screening
    • Criminal Record Check
